Saddleback Caterpillar

Marcia found this caterpillar today. It is a good thing she did not touch it.

The following is from hgtv.com.
If you see this critter, don't touch! Its many spines are capable of delivering a sting you won't soon forget. The saddleback caterpillar's hollow quills are connected to poison glands beneath its skin, and the pain and swelling from contact with them can rival or surpass that of a bee sting.
The saddleback caterpillar (Acharia stimulea) is the inch-long larval form of a fuzzy, dark brown moth. In this crawling stage, however, its coloration is vivid: in the center of its bright green "saddle" is a purplish-brown circle. The critter can be found in the eastern U.S., mostly on deciduous trees and shrubs as well as corn and grasses in midsummer to early fall.
If you have the misfortune of a too-close encounter with the saddleback, wash the area immediately with soap and water, and apply ice to help relieve pain. If any spines are still embedded in the skin, adhesive tape may be useful in removing them. The burning pain and discomfort can last for several hours. People with allergic reactions or who have a sensitivity to bee stings should contact their physician immediately.

ResMed AirFit P10 Pillow Mask

Today, I got a new mask for my cpap machine. It is a pillow mask. It is very minimalist. The AirFit 10 by ResMed.

New Box

I made this box for the new wood-burning tool I got for branding my shaving brushes. I had a nice piece of solid 3/4 wood that I split to make the box.

The tool came with four tips. I made a place to hold the tips, too.

Parker 51

I got this Parker 51 back in the early 60s when I was in Junior High. I had the nib replaced once, but it has been damaged since, and it has not been used probably in over 40 years. I decided to research some on pen restoration. As a result, I have disassembled the pen and ordered a new nib for it. The following pictures were taken on July 8, 2016.

Update: July 26, 2016

The new nib arrived yesterday, but I was not home to sign for it. I went in to the post office and got the package this morning. Now, I have put the nib in its new home. I have to find me some ink now.

Box for Lathe Turning Tools

I bought an inexpensive set of turning tools at Harbor Freight. I decided I needed a dedicated place to keep them, so I made a box from woods I had on hand. The corners are mitered. The top and bottom are 1/4 inch plywood that is secured in a rabbeted slot. Henges are recessed. The top is secured with a latch. I also made cradles for each of the tools.

secured with a latch

eight tools

tools cradled at the collar and half way on the handle

top cradle with stop

middle cradle
I have used stain/polyurethane that is on hand. I finished the box with pecan stain. Here it is hanging to dry.

I added foam to take up the space and prevent rattling when the box is shut.
